The City of Long Beach Recreation Department’s Annual Snowflake Run was held on January 31, 2009.
It was be a four mile run that started and ended at Lindell School (Lindell Boulevard and West Hudson Street). The race began at 9:00 AM. The Run participants had to register in advance.
The Snowflake Run is always a fun winter event. It is good to see the community active in what is otherwise a very quiet and slow season.
The runners braved extremely cold temperatures. It was 24 degrees with a strong relentless wind coming from the West. Although it helped while heading East, the wind was a huge force to reckon with while running West and sometimes South.
Due to the many intersections that required traffic control to ensure runner safety, the Auxiliary Police had a strong showing of officers. The extreme weather did not dissuade the LBAPD Bicycle Unit from participating. In the end, the Snowflake Run went smoothly and without incident.
