Memorial Day Parade – Monday May 30, 2011

Long Beach is known for one of the largest and finest Memorial Day parades in all of New York.  The pride of our community is also some of the finest around and the streets are filled with our neighbors who show their support and thanks to those who volunteer their services and in some cases regrettably their lives to keep us all safe.  Marching from the West End to City Hall are many community service providers, organizations, schools and our public service and safety providers.

For the Long Beach Auxiliary Police, this is one of our largest events.  We not only assist in traffic and crowd control, but march and ride in the parade as well.

Muster for the parade will be at 8AM  at 7:45 AM (so that the annual picture can be taken) at Long Beach Police Headquarters. Please note your availability on the Duty Board!

This year the annual unit photograph will be taken before the parade detail.

Memorial Day is also when the Auxiliary Police, in full dress uniform have their annual picture taken on the steps of the Long Beach Police Department.

LBAPD Vehicle Detailing – May 29, 2011

Following the City Manager’s Race and in anticipation of the Memorial Day Parade the following day, the LBAPD is looking to get together a team of members (with family and friends always welcome) to detail our vehicles.

With a sizable team the efforts should not take long.

The rewards will be shiny vehicles for the parade, tasty food that will be provided, camaraderie that will be enhanced and an opportunity for family/friends to do somewhat cool hands-on things to support the Auxiliary Police.

City of Long Beach Public Bicycle Auction – May 7, 2011

On May 7, 2011 the City held a very successful public bicycle auction.

Approximately 100 bicycles that were left around Long Beach and were never claimed went on auction. Viewing was from 9AM to 10AM and the auction immediately followed.  The weather was great and so was the turn out!

Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford was on hand to distribute free bicycle helmets!

The Long Beach Auxiliary Police assisted the Long Beach Police Department in setting up all of the bicycles and making sure that the event went smoothly and safely.

Little League Parade – April 9, 2011

Our proud Little Leaguers, their family and supporters will march through the streets of Long Beach just in time for a fun and busy playing season.  The participants will march along Park Avenue to the Lindell School.  It is a fun event in which our local kids get to have the City stop the traffic to recognize them and show them our support.  As this is a parade, it requires the monitoring and closing of many intersections throughout the event.  It is important that we have a strong showing of officers to assist with such an event.  After a slow special-event season, this event will serve as a good refresher for most officers and a valuable training for those who recently got into uniform.

Muster will be at 9AM at Long Beach Police Department Headquarters.

The Parade will start at the Lindell School. It will head South on Lindell Boulevard and then East onto Park Avenue. At National Boulevard it will turn North and conclude at the Recreation Center Ballfield.
