Our regular patrols take place Monday through Friday every week of the year.
Last Year, the LBAPD membership volunteered over 7,500 hours. We patrolled approximately 275 days and participated in over 65 special events. Daily patrols are one of our top priorities, 2nd only to special events.
Regular patrols commence at 7:00pm and end at 11:00pm.
Our regular patrols generally include responding to emergency scenes to provide traffic control for the police, fire, and rescue departments.
In addition, we are always on the lookout for potentially dangerous or illegal situations. In the event of such a situation, we are in direct contact with Police Headquarters and can summon the appropriate help immediately.
Summer Patrols:
During the summer months, regular patrols are preceded by Bike Patrols that start at 6:00pm.
Our weekly patrol schedule is also expanded during the summer to include weekend patrols. The weekend patrols are manned by rotating the weekday patrols on an alternating schedule.
The beginning of summer also marks the busiest time of the year in Long Beach - Beach Season. To help the police department and the Life Guards compensate for the huge influx of people that make their way to our city each day, we also commence Beach Patrols.
We patrol the miles of city beaches in our four wheel drive vehicles including a Jeep Grand Cherokee, three Dodge Durangos and a Ford F-150 with crew cab. While out on Beach Patrol we help to ensure the safe behavior of our beach’s visitors as well as helping the police department enforce the laws and ordinances of Long Beach.
During the busiest times, we combine our Bike Patrols on the boardwalk and our Beach Patrols on the sand while our regular patrols are in the streets to provide maximum coverage, ensuring the safety of all our residents and guests.
Each year, the Long Beach Auxiliary Police Dept. is responsible for helping many people. Not only do we provide traffic and crowd control, but we routinely help disabled motorists, reunite lost children with their families, get assistance for injured people, and help crime victims get rapid police assistance.
