Duties and Functions

In the course of our regular patrols, we have many duties and functions that extend beyond our basic role as the "Eyes and Ears" of Long Beach. These include the following:

Vertical Patrols:
We patrol the Long Beach senior citizen housing buildings located throughout the city. This ensures the safety of the building residents and keeps the city aware of any potential hazards in the buildings. It also brings a sense of security to the residents who know we're there regularly.

Park Patrols:
We also patrol all Long Beach City Parks. This helps to prevent vandalism and ensures the safety of those who use them. We close and lock the parks at dusk and check up on them throughout our patrol nights.

City Government Security:
We provide security for the Long Beach City Council meetings and Zoning Board meetings held at City Hall. Although generally calm and orderly, tensions can arise when hot topics are at issue. The City Government has come to depend on the Long Beach Auxiliary Police. We are a visual deterrent to any who may have hostile intent. We are also capable of instant communication with the police department.

School Patrols:
We patrol all of the Long Beach City Schools. Vandalism and trespassing occur most often at night. As part of our nightly routine, we patrol city schools and report any suspicious activity to Police Headquarters. Our presence greatly deters crime on and around school property.

Recreation Center Security:
The Long Beach Recreation Center is almost constantly host to a variety of sports including hockey, softball/baseball, swimming, and la cross. Naturally, the Auxiliary Police provide a presence at these events. Our presence not only deters bad behavior, but also provides a large measure of safety for the audience.

Boardwalk Concerts:
In addition to all of the other events hosted by Long Beach, the City also offers free concerts twice a week on the boardwalk during the summer. Big name performers are often partaking in these concerts which, expectedly draws a huge audience. To ensure the safety of all of our guests, the Auxiliary Police provide crowd control for the concerts. Our presence at these events is also a comfort to many as we can get rapid medical or police assistance if necessary.

These are just some of the regular duties and functions that we provide on a daily basis. These are in addition to any "Special Events" such as parades and races in the City.
