Long Beach Arts & Crafts Fair – July 16th & 17th, 2011

Over 200 craft and food vendors will be lining the boardwalk from Edwards Boulevard to Long Beach Boulevard. The Fair will be open 9am to 7pm on Saturday and 9am to 6pm on Sunday.

In addition to crafts and food expect to find jewelry, gifts, art, live entertainment, demonstrations, raffles and much more. For vendor information call 516-705-7211.

The Arts and Crafts Fair is not only a fun event, but a major fundraiser for the Long Beach Auxiliary Police.

The Auxiliary Police will be setting up a booth and will be serving hot dogs, cold refreshments and Long Beach Auxiliary Police Supporter T-shirts.

This is a great opportunity to socialize with other officers and get our families and friends involved!

Long Beach Free Summer Concert Series – 2011

This long-running City tradition returns with a full lineup of musical entertainment.

Concerts are generally held every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (with an occassional Friday) and begin at 8:00pm unless otherwise noted.

On patrol nights the Auxiliary Police are asked to help as additional Eyes and Ears for the concerts and maintain safe bicycle traffic across the Boardwalk venues.

Long Beach Fireworks Extravaganza – July 9, 2011 (rescheduled)

**UPDATE** The fireworks have been rescheduled due to the forecast for rain. The fireworks will now be Saturday, July 9th.

The fireworks will be centered on the beach between Long Beach Boulevard and Riverside Boulevard and will commence at 9:00 pm. It will include a New Orleans/Cajun Zydeco concert by T’Bazco Road Concert at 8:00 PM on the Long Beach Boulevard Beach.

Large crowds are expected. The City is supplying free shuttle busses to ease traffic for residents from both the East and West Ends to Riverside Blvd between the hours of 7 and 11pm. Fireworks are dangerous and anyone found possessing or exploding fireworks will be subject to arrest.

SPECTATORS SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER WALKING, BIKING OR TAKING A SHUTTLE BUS TO THIS EVENT. PARKING WILL BE QUITE LIMITED AND POST-EVENT TRAFFIC WILL BE EXTREMELY HEAVY AND SLOW-MOVING!

UPDATE: EDWARDS BOULEVARD WILL BE CLOSED FOR PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC ONLY. NO VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED ONTO OR ALLOWED TO CROSS EDWARDS BOULEVARD DURING THE EVENT!

This is one of the busiest traffic events for the Auxiliary Police and as such is an “all hands needed” event.  Note your availability on the duty board. Muster is at 7:30 PM.

St. Mary’s International Festival July 7-10, 2011

The annual St. Mary of the Isle International Festival will be held from Thursday evening through Sunday evening. The Church is located at 315 East Walnut Street Long Beach, NY 11561. This is a fun event with amusement park rides, carnival booths, games of luck, events and entertainment for the entire family and many delicious international delights to dine on.

This is a busy event which draws a very active crowd. A police presence and our Auxiliary Police support keep things comfortable and safe.

We will need more than the usual patrol night’s coverage, so please consider your availability for these evenings. Alert the night’s command if you can help out.

Auxiliary Police beefs up patrols for the summer!

Due to the increased summer activities and events through our great city, the Long Beach Auxiliary Police will commence Summer Saturday patrols on June 25, 2011.

The Wednesday night patrol will begin on that night and all the following Saturdays will be covered by the patrol nights in sequence. Please make sure that you check the Summer Saturday Patrol schedule!

If you are not available for your scheduled patrol, please alert your night supervisor and see if you can help out on another Saturday night.

Uniform Change – May, 31 2011 – Short Sleeves

A reminder that effective May 31 uniforms will include the short sleeve shirt.

Anyone in long sleeves will be considered, “out of uniform“.

The top button is left unbuttoned and a regular WHITE crew neck undershirt must be worn beneath.

Please make sure that the sleeves of the undershirt do not extend beyond the sleeves of the uniform shirt.

If anyone requires a Short Sleeve shirt, they must immediately inform their Sergeant.

In addition:

When out of the car and on duty the uniform cap must be worn.

On any traffic assignment an OSHA approved vest MUST be worn at all times!
