Robert C. McAvoy Labor Day 5 Mile Run – September 6, 2010

runnersThe annual Labor Day race began at 8:00 am at Riverside Boulevard on the Boardwalk.  It ran West on the Boardwalk to New York Avenue, East on Broadway to Pacific, West on Shore Road (against normal traffic flow) to Neptune and then back on the Boardwalk with the finish line back where it all started!  All registered runners received free admission to the beach and a commemorative t-shirt.  Awards were presented in several categories.

A race in a small geographical area such as Long Beach means that many intersections will be crossed by the runners- sometimes involving easily more than sixty times- including major thoroughfares such as Park Avenue, Beech Street and Broadway.  The Labor Day race is one of our “all hands needed” events.  The LBAPD Bicycle Patrol plays an important role both leading the runners and sprinting around the City to locate the various tail runners that break away from the pack.

Historical Society Arts & Crafts Festival – August 21 & 21, 2010

tentsSuch a great event that Long Beach has two Arts & Crafts Fairs every summer!

Over two hundred vendors of eclectic crafts, art and food lined both sides of the Boardwalk centered at Riverside Boulevard.  The Fair was held from 9:00am to 7:00pm on both days.  It is historically one of the most successful events on the boardwalk- not only for the community but also for the Long Beach Auxiliary Police.

The Long Beach Auxiliary Police ran a booth selling the most competitively priced Sabrett’s Hot Dogs (with all of the fixings), the most poular brands of soda, large bottles of water and all the flavors of Gatorade. The booth was operated by volunteers and supporters consisting of Auxiliary Police, family and friends.  All of the proceeds will go to help support the operations of the Long Beach Auxiliary Police.
