IRISH DAY PARADE & FESTIVAL - October 4, 2008

The annual Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish Day and Parade will begin at Washington Boulevard at 12:00 noon and will proceed all the way down to the West End where the street fair will be held.  There will be fun for the entire family with rides and delicious food.  There are many tables selling handmade, eclectic, Irish and one-of-a-kind wares.  Beech Street in the trendy West End- from New York Boulevard to Connecticut Boulevard will be closed for the huge and successful festival.

Due to earlier street closures and later street openings, the City relies heavily on Long Beach Auxiliary Police for traffic control and pedestrian safety.  This is a major event that requires a lot of our support and services.

This was a great event!  The parade gets bigger and bigger each year.  There were many more participants.  A lot of bagpiper units were present, public servants, veterans, various ethnic and religious supporters, local government officials, fire fighters on motorcycles, vintage fire engines and some swell old NYPD and NCPD Police Cruisers.  The weather was great and a lot of people came to support the parade and enjoy the festivities of the event.

The City of Long Beach Police Department enforced a Zero Tolerance Alcohol Policy on Irish Day.

Long Beach Auxiliary Police to be Honored - September 14, 2008

The Long Beach Interfaith Clergy Association will be honoring the men and women First Responders of the City of Long Beach.

The whole community is invited to honor the Long Beach Police and Fire Departments, Auxiliary Police, Volunteer Fire and Rescue and our Lifeguards.

The event will be held on Sunday September 14, 2008 at 4:00 pm at St. Ignatius Church located at 721 West Broadway in Long Beach.

The Church was filled with Long Beach First Responders, their friends, family, community and religious leaders.  The Auxiliary Police proudly wore their Class A Dress Uniforms.  It was nice to recognize the services that First Responders- both career and volunteer provide to Long Beach.  The Association plans to make this an annual event
