Long Beach Arts & Crafts Fair - July 12 & 13, 2008

Over 200 craft and food vendors will be lining the boardwalk from Edwards Boulevard to Long Beach Boulevard.  The Fair will be open 9am to 7pm. Some vendors will also be open the night before during the Long Beach Fireworks.  In addition to crafts and food, expect to find live entertainment, demonstrations, raffles, and much more.

The Arts and Crafts Fair is not only a fun event, but a major fundraiser for the Long Beach Auxiliary Police.

We will be setting up a booth and will be serving hot dogs and cold refreshments.

We will also be selling Long Beach Auxiliary Police Supporter T-shirts.

Amazing weather made for an amazing turnout.  The beach and boardwalk were packed.  We sold many many hot dogs, cold drinks and quite a few supporter tee shirts.  The community not only supported the Long Beach Auxiliary Police with their purchases, but with many kind words and their thanks.  We had a great showing of officers to run the booth and an impressive number of family and friends that helped out too.

Long Beach Fireworks Extravaganza - July 11, 2008

The fireworks will be centered on the beach at Riverside Boulevard commencing at 9:00 pm. It will include a concert beginning at 8:00 pm as well. Some vendors for the weekend’s Arts and Crafts Fair will be open on the boardwalk. If necessary, the rain date is the following evening.

This was a spectacular event.  An estimated 20,000 people were on the beach watching the fireworks which followed a lively concert.  An estimate of the number of people on the boardwalk was not known.  A huge crowd considering that Long Beach has a population of approximately 35,000 residents.  Cars were parked on every patch of empty space and the 12 running shuttle buses were absolutely jammed packed.  In all, there was a lot of pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic to clear after the finale of the fireworks.  The Auxiliary Police did an amazing job.

St. Mary of the Isle Church Feast - July 10 - 13, 2008

The annual St. Mary of the Isle International Festival will be held from Thursday evening through Sunday evening.  The Church is located at 315 East Walnut Street Long Beach, NY 11561.  This is a fun event with amusement park rides, carnival booths, games of luck, events and entertainment for the entire family and many delicious international delights to dine on.

This is a busy event which draws a very active crowd.  A police presence and our Auxiliary Police support keep things comfortable and safe.  The last two days will also coincide with the Arts and Crafts Fair which will be held on the boardwalk.  We will need a lot of coverage, so please consider your availability for these two events.

The warm and sunny weather attracted many thousands of people to this four day festival.  The Auxiliary Police worked closely with uniform and plain clothes Long Beach Police officers in keeping this energetic event a safe one- both inside the event and in the busy streets around the church.

Fourth of July Firecracker Run - July 4, 2008

On Friday July 4, 2008 Long Beach will be holding a 1K run for kids 14 years of age and under.  All participants will receive a commemorative tee shirt.  The race starts at 8:30 am and will be held rain or shine.

It is always great to see our youth engaging in wholesome and healthy community events.  The kids were enthusiastic and the parents and organizers were appreciative of the Auxiliary Police presence which also included the trained Bicycle Patrol.

Town of Hempsted Fireworks Traffic Detail 6-28-2008

The annual ToH fireworks at Lido Beach will be held on Saturday, June 28th, 2008. This always results in massive amounts of traffic passing through Long Beach as soon as the fireworks end.

All officers will be needed.  Please sign up on the main board if available.

One of the busiest traffic events of the year, the Auxiliary Police assist in getting many thousands of cars from Point Lookout and Lido Beach through Long Beach and across the bridge in the middle of the night.  As in the past, the traffic signals were controlled to favor west bound traffic down Park Avenue.  Given the volume of cars and motorcycles (and some weary motorists), the ToH Fireworks event really shows the value of our training and traffic assignments throughout the rest of the year.
